“Latent (of a quality or state) existing but not yet developed or manifest; hidden or concealed.”

Latent Rings is a set of wearable jewelry, designed collaboratively with AI and 3D printed in silver. Each of the three rings is a moment in the interpolation of a Latent Space (In artificial intelligence, 'Latent Space' refers to a mathematical space that maps what a neural network has learned from training images). The ring, although physical, has an ephemeral nature as its form is constantly resolving.

Using Stable Diffusions, I trained a custom model to generate wide range of graphical medieval patterns. I was interested to see if you could collaborate with AI to explore emotive and complex symbolism, and work with art directions that often appear inaccessible without a specialised collaborator.

The system interpolates between two designed states. The blending steps in between are covered in strange AI artifacts that adds to its zany appearance. What I find most interesting is that there are seemingly infinite amounts of new designs concealed between existing forms.

The Latent Ring was designed to exist both virtually and physically, placing the wearable on a virtual hand contextualized the objects scale and from in the digital space.
